Having a hard time remembering the last time your family was truly happy?
Family counseling is quickly becoming a lost art. Go into most agencies and complain of family problems, and before you know it each member of your family has a different personal therapist, you’re driving back and forth to the agency more than soccer practice, and “therapy” has nestled right next to “mortgage” on your monthly budget expenses!
Sound familiar?
Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but the sad fact is that not many therapists do true family therapy anymore – therapy with all of most of the family members together in the room for the majority of the sessions, getting on the same page with each other. This is unfortunate, because research has shown that family therapy is a treatment of choice for many common challenges, including eating disorders, adolescent rebellion, stepfamily issues, and so forth.
I offer short-term family therapy designed to help your family interact in a way so everyone gets their needs met. And yes, that is possible!
I have particular expertise in families with young children. I have four young children myself, and although I definitely believe that everyone’s children and family situations are unique, I also believe that going through it myself gives me added compassion and insight for families with young children. So if your kids are acting out, having trouble sleeping at night, having difficulty separating from either parent for school, or anything really, give me a call! I can help.
Most family issues are resolved after approximately three months of counseling, though this can of course vary. Many families that I see report finding relief in just a few sessions. I generally keep space open for 1-2 families in my practice. If you want to discuss whether or not family counseling is right for your situation, please call me at (916) 844-4615 or email me for a free consultation.
